Embody A Living Character Through Song
with Belinda Mello and Vicki Shaghoian
There are so many amazing voices out there auditioning, but only so many cross the threshold of audition room onto the professional stage. What’s the difference? Singing is Acting: The singer that can transform on the spot in the audition room, and transport the people on the other side of the table gets the role. You will discover how to be in the room and in your body, and how to stop listening and start receiving when singing.
Guest teacher, Vicki Shaghoian, is a New York based vocal coach and music director. She was an assistant professor of acting at the Yale School of Drama from 2000-2014 and has taught at A.C.T., and lead masterclasses in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Ashland, Houston and New York. Clients including: Bette Midler, Lupita Nyongo, Bryce Pinkham, Bryan Terrell Clark, Kathryn Hahn, and many more.
Class Format: Belinda Mello will lead a warm-up that incorporates the Alexander Technique and her unique synthesis of movement methods: AT Motion. Vicki will then take the class through a vocal "wake-up" that breaks down the simplicity of moving from speaking to singing. After a quick lunch break actors will get a chance to coach their audition song under the supportive guidance of Belinda and Vicki. The Workshop will end with a quick Q&A about the work done in class.
